The Global Environment Facility was established to forge
international co-operation and finance actions to address
four critical threats to the global environment: biodiversity
loss, climate change, degradation of international waters,
and ozone depletion. Related work to stem the pervasive problem
of land degradation is also eligible for GEF funding. Background

GEF-NGO Network
The Global Environment Facility has a network of non-governmental
organizations (GEF-NGO Network) which serves to ensure the
integration of NGOs´ interests in GEF operation and
the implementation of GEF programmes and projects in an accountable,
transparent and participatory way.
The GEF-NGO Network functions through Focal Points. Each
of GEF regions elects a representative NGO which nominates
an individual to be a Focal Point, called a Regional Focal
Point (RFP). All business to and from the Network, must be
conducted with the respective RFPs.
The Guidelines for the Coordination Committee of the GEF-NGO
Network explain the functioning of the GEF-NGO Network and
the roles and responsibilities of the Regional Focal Points.
