"A" workshop: Hungarian financial opportunities and bank loan schemes - Current opportunities, demands and nature conservation requirements

One of the key problems facing Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) is their inability to get bank loans. In start contrast to this, another frequent factor SMEs deal with is the lofty limit of support. The SMEs are often too small to actually obtain the loans which they are applicable for and whose requirements they can meet. Furthermore, the lack of information can also cause problems.

In case of nature friendly bank loans, financial institutions should take into consideration the so-called 'no-money based personal contributions'. Besides, establishment of professional consortiums could also help in acquiring loans. The follow-up of activity completion and the long term control of the results should be emphasized instead of the administration liabilities. State guarantee and tax support could inspire the development of effective biodiversity friendly bank loans.

The support of the European Union could further stimulate the expansion of the so-called pro-biodiversity businesses. As one option, banks could also accept EU support as the personal contribution. Moreover, microfunds from EU support could be created with the aim of changing regulations. With the involvement of gestor organisations, pro-biodiversity businesses could obtain the opportunity to receive funding for their activities.
Developing new and enhancing existing partnerships could also play an important role for the business sector to get more involved in nature conservation.
