In 2008 the Ministry of Environment of Luxemburg launched
a campaign on biodiversity. In the framework of this campaign
television, radio and printed press materails were produced.
The aim was to show people how they can pay more attention
to biodiversity in their every day life and how they can help
stop biodiversity loss. The main outcomes have been so far:
One key element of the campaign was the Pan-European Biodiversity
Picnic. The picnic was organized for NGOs, the press, as well
as governmental institutions and the private sector. Most
participants were involved in setting up and also carrying
out the national plan for nature protection.
The picnic took place on May 21 in the place called "Grund"
of Luxembourg city. After a short introductive speech by the
Minister for Environment, Lucien Lux, organic and local finger
food and drinks were served for lunch. Enjoying the green
neighbourhood, people spent a pleasant meal together talking
about biodiversity issues and changing ideas in an informal
way.
