The Biodiversity Picnic in Moldova was organized by BIOTICA Ecological Society in official co-operation with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. The event took place on 23 June, about 35 km from Chisinau, near Peresecina Village. Among the 33 participants there were representatives from the governmental sector (Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, "Moldsilva" Forest Agency and "Apele Moldovei" water management Agency), NGOs, academic societies, and intergovernmental bodies.

Dr. Alexei Andreev, chairperson of BIOTICA Ecological Society opened the meeting. Mr. Vladimir Ceoban, Head of the Commission on Public Administration, Ecology and Territorial Development, Ms. Ala Rotaru, CBD Focal Point of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and Ms. Liliana Josan, Coordinator of the Biodiversity Issue Group of the European ECO-Forum, made brief introductions inter alia about CBD COP-9 and the Pan-European Biodiversity Picnic initiative launched at the Belgrade Ministerial Conference in October, 2007, and invited participants to an open dialogue.
