CEEweb Academy on Preserving Europe’s Ecosystems and Natural Capital – Tools and Processes in Theory and Practice

7 October 2013 - 8 October 2013

Mapping and assessing ecosystem services (MAES), restoring ecosystems and various mechanisms such as Biodiversity Offsetting and the No Net Loss Initiative (NNL) are high on the policy agenda now, addressing the fact that most of Europe’s ecosystems are assessed to be degraded.

There are already existing or planned policy tools designed to enable halting the degradation and loss of ecosystems, which aim for mapping, restoring and connecting ecosystems and enhancing our natural capital. With this CEEweb Academy, we wish to raise awareness on these policies and their elements, the tools of implementations and their potential practical realization at all levels.

The Academy aims to bring together public officers, policy makers, non-governmental organizations and players from the academic world to share and discuss experience and inspire new ways of thinking for a more efficient preservation of our natural capital in Central and Eastern Europe in light of the most recent EU initiatives.

The project is generously supported by the International Visegrad Fund, the European Commission and the Central European Initiative.
