ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability on behalf of the GREEN SURGE project are pleased to announce the:

Stakeholder Dialogue Forum

Green Infrastructure for and with citizens: How can local governments make it happen?

13th October 2015

Mundo B, Rue d’Edimbourg 26, 1050 Brussels, Belgium

As the first workshop as part of the European Commission-funded GREEN SURGE research project, “Green Infrastructure and Urban Biodiversity for Sustainable Urban Development and the Green Economy”, this free event will showcase how cities (can) govern and manage their green infrastructure. Participants will learn from practical tools and solutions already available and discuss what is still needed to implement and maintain green infrastructure in cities.

The workshop is an officially recognised side event as part of the programme of the European Commission’s OPEN DAYS – European Week of Regions and Cities. The event will be held in the conference centre of Mundo B, an innovative workspace and services complex focussed on environmental and social responsibility. It is located at Porte de Namur, just a short walk from the European Parliament buildings and principal Open Days venues. Refreshments, lunch and a finger-food and drinks reception will be provided to all participants free of charge.

The Dialogue Forum will bring local governments together with members of the research community, urban green infrastructure planners, practitioners and other experts. It is the first public presentation of the project’s results to wider stakeholders since its launch in 2013.

GREEN SURGE will identify, develop and test ways of linking green spaces, biodiversity, people and the green economy in order to meet the major urban challenges related to land use conflicts, climate change adaptation, demographic changes, and human health and wellbeing. This workshop relates to theme no. 3 ‘Places and spaces': Urban and rural development; urban-rural integration, as it focuses on urban Green Infrastructure, while taking the rural surroundings of a city into account.
