Running business in a resource constrained world

Running business in a resource constrained world -
Workshop on possible solutions and cooperation between businesses and NGOs for achieving EU targets on Resource Efficiency and Biodiversity

While the whole society faces growing environmental and social challenges, which call for change of practices
both in the public and private sector, businesses need to respond to the public and governmental
expectations amid growing global competition and under the threat of mounting resource scarcity. Thus
businesses need to adapt their resource use practices, including on materials, energy resources, ecosystems
and their services.
The EU Resource Efficiency Roadmap aims to realise an ambitious vision of sustainable management of all
resources, while the EU Biodiversity Strategy foresees an increased mainstreaming of biodiversity in the
business sector in a mutually reinforcing way. This calls for innovative solutions and approaches, where it is
possible to find common interests and goals for NGOs and businesses. This workshop aims to identify these
possibilities in the light of the need to reduce environmental pressures and thus make progress towards
sustainability and delivering the EU targets.
This event will bring together private sector and civil society representatives in order to look into new ways of
cooperation, through which it is possible to make progress towards sustainable management of natural
resources and the halting of biodiversity loss.
The workshop will conclude with a number of possible actions and fields of cooperation, where NGOs and
businesses can find common interests for sustainable resource use and biodiversity conservation.

Please, find attached the agenda and the summary of the event.

The European Business and Biodiversity Campaign, led by the Global Nature Fund (GNF) was initiated by a consortium of European companies and NGOs. The aim of the initiative is to demonstrate how companies can include biodiversity concerns in their business model. The Campaign is supported under the LIFE Programme of the EU.
