Regulations on new pollutants
We support the sustainable use of pesticides as EU Directive stipulates and we should act more on the principles of integrated pest management (IPM) which seek prevention. We are in favor of better implementation and use of low risk pesticides and non-chemical methods for plat protection. We agree that there is a need for an exit plan for glyphosate and measures for restricting the public and private use of products containing it.
We are happy with the fact that in 19 April 2019, the MS endorsed a Commissions proposal to appoint four MS to act jointly as rapporteur MS for the next assessment of glyphosate, group named AGG – Assessment Group of Glyphosate.
We will follow the work, starting on 15.06.2020, of MS in the AGG (HU, FR, NL, SE) on the comprehensive scientific evaluation of glyphosate application for renewal which will be submitted by December 2019. We will follow the public consultation which will take place.
We are in favor of more sustainable and safer consumption patterns for plastics. Effective waste collection systems combined with a drop in waste generation. We will support financing research and innovation projects on better identification of contaminants and on decontamination of plastic waste through Horizon 2020.
We will contribute to any measures in order to solve the rising problem of microplastics which are intentionally added to certain products such as cosmetics, detergents, paints, dispersed during production, transport and use of plastic pellets.
We will support the implementation of the objectives of the non-toxic environment strategy considering that the policy should enhance innovation for the purposes of improved protection of health and the environment as well as the economic development of EU industry.
We will support ECHA on evaluation of EDCs – endocrine disruptors – and will seek that funding for this should be given.
Sustainable agriculture
Promoting and stimulating the investments on eco-farming and advanced implementation of the sustainable use of pesticides are necessary actions for a sustainable national and European agriculture. One of our main approach is to increase the organic farming crop.
Fossil fuel subsidies
Due to the raising of climate changes effects upon our life and environment, our approach is linked to the sustaining the innovation and research in using the alternative resources, renewable resources and assuring the proper funding, public or private.
Environmental civil society organizations in our region
Necessary actions covering environmental issues and climate changes mitigation actions should address entire society, and funding should provide for all range of governmental institutions, education, research and civil society. LIFE programme implement the innovation principle assuring the 60% of grant for applicants. PRO Romania could act for interpretation of other 40% of co funding to include the physical participation (material participation, studies and equipment) of applicant.
The party’s main sustainability message
PRO Romania considers that the future of Romania and any Member States, finally our Planet, depends on the correct identification and the equilibrium established between the socio –economic and environmental protection, as sustainable development.
The raising in the Resources Consumption, the abandon of the healthy principles of life and neglecting the environmental aspects (pollution, biodiversity loss, climate changes) will increase the life costs and people will pay for all these.
PRO Romania considers that immediately measures are needed, constantly and correctly applied, based on smart community legislation, local and central capacity building, funds accessing especially the EEA grants and EU grants, smart partnership public- private, assuming responsibilities, every citizen and civil society implication and participation, and finally but not least, citizen education and enhancement of awareness on environmental issues.
