CEEweb Academy III: Management of protected areas and Natura 2000

CEEweb Academy was organized in 24-29 August 2006, in Bulgaria (more precisely, in the town of Kiten, at the Black sea coast in the area of the mouth of the Ropotamo river). The topic of the event was: Strengthening civil participation in the implementation of EU nature conservation directives through the experiences gained by the 10 new Member States.

The following topics were covered: Management of protected areas (Sustainable land use, Preparing management plans, Responsibilities, Tourism as a tool of management) and Natura 2000 (Background of Natura 2000, Creation of Natura 2000 network, Management of Natura 2000, Financing Natura 2000, Natura 2000 impact assessment). Based on the lectures and the participants' experiences, there was discussion on the best possible implementation of Natura 2000.

The event was implemented in an incredibly picturesque place at the Black sea coast. In the surrounding areas, in a radius of 10-15 km, there are at least 10 protected areas, including Ramsar sites, nature reserves, as well as all interesting sub-Mediterranean communities.
