Water, water, everywhere!

The Natura 2000 Plitvice Lakes National Park is the place to hydrate eyes and soul, and to take outstanding pictures for our photo contest.

If the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge had gotten his inspiration to write his renowned The Rime of the Ancient Mariner from the Plitvice Lakes National Park, probably the result would had been a more joyous, less tenebrous one. The long poem, of course, is a masterpiece as it is, and so is too this Natura 2000 site located in the centre of Croatia. Also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Plitvice is not only extraordinary rich in endemic species and habitats, but it is also one of the most stunning places our earth has to offer: a path of wooden planks guides you across endless lakes, leads you past countless waterfalls and through fantastic rock formations.

Even more, the Plitvice National Park is not only of great natural value, but also of exceptional cultural one. The far-reaching presence of human activity can be found in the form of various traditional buildings, house yards and hamlets as well as villages and memorial sites.

So, go on and experience this miscellaneous Natura 2000 site yourself and once you have taken as many pictures as you possibly can participate in our “Go Wild! Stay Cultured.” Photo Contest!

The deadline to submit your photographs is 18 November, 2018!
