Water

Rivers and lakes are very often located within Natura 2000 sites; water influences many habitats and species of the Network. Under such circumstances, these sites are not only subject to the regulations contained within the Water Framework Directive (WFD), but are also required to maintain a favourable conservation status or to be restored to such status. In order to implement Nature Directives and WFD more effectively, we outlined several policy recommendations and good practice examples, which help to integrate each other’s tools and mechanisms.
