The establishment of a Policy Working Group (PWG) was officially endorsed by the Annual Meeting in 2007. The mandate of this new Working Group is to develop policy responses to the various drivers of biodiversity loss, also using the DPSIR (drivers-pressures-state-impact-response) model developed by the European Environment Agency.
The Working Group formulates policy proposals, which are channeled into the EU, regional and national consultation processes through the Policy Office and the CEEweb Working Groups.
The overall goal of the PWG is to convince decision makers to develop holistic policies in all fields, which are coherent and mutually reinforcing each other. Holistic policies should apply integrated policy tools for regulating resource and land use, two main pressures behind biodiversity loss, through addressing the underlying drivers. Thus the PWG discusses these two policy fields with the aim to present proposals towards decision-makers.
The Working Group is chaired by Iván Gyulai (EISD, Hungary).
