Even though strong commitments have been made on biodiversity within the Environment for Europe process, the draft agenda of the 6th Ministerial EfE Conference did not include this topic on the official agenda, only as a "parallel" session. Devoted governments, intergovernmental organisations and NGOs lobbied to get this topic back on the official agenda, and thus CEEweb drew the attention of the governmental delegates of the preparatory meetings to biodiversity through electronic postcards on the occasion of International Biodiversity Day.

As the result of the strong lobbying and negotiations, biodiversity was finally integrated into the agenda as a "special session".
