The Convention was opened for signature at the United Nations
Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de
Janeiro in June 1992. It entered into force on 29 December
1993 and with 188 Parties this UN convention is in force currently
with the widest participation (while the USA, Andorra, Brunei
Darussalam, Holy See, Iraq, Somalia and Timor Leste are not
Parties to it).
