Anti-poaching campaign in Croatia
A new hunting law is proposed in Croatia, which is much worse
than the former law. Green Action (GA) has prepared a position
paper on the law and a press release for the media. The position
paper has been sent to the Parliamentarians and GA has negotiated
with one parliamentarian to present their position during
the debate. It was broadcast on TV and radio stations, as
well as published in some daily papers. The topic has caused
reaction from public, too, as people are phoning Green Action
and providing examples and data on poaching and law violation.
The action has been successful, as the law proposal has not
been adopted in the fast procedure, but slowed down in the
normal procedure, meaning that it would go through two to
three readings.
Right now GA is preparing comments on the proposal of the
new law and advocating for better lawmaking with reference
of national commitments under the CBD, CITES, Bern Convention.
In autumn GA will print a brochure and start with education
activities as well.
