Measuring progress in nature conservation against the CBD and PEBLDS

BIOTICA Ecological Society, Moldova

BIOTICA Ecological Society has been registered as a national NGO on April 2, 1993 and has 60 members, 13 of whom have PhDs. Since then, dozens of projects were successfully implemented mainly with the support of foreign and international funds. BIOTICA has three main areas of activity: Biodiversity Conservation, Development of "third sector", Environmental Law and Policy. Among the most important projects there are the assessment of the actual state of the habitats along the Dniester; publication of three books related to the biodiversity conservation of this river; determination of the importance of the territories adjacent to the Dniester for the biodiversity conservation; elaboration of the plan on the creation of the first National Park "Lower Dniester", as well as implementation of concrete activities for its establishment."BIOTICA" published several collections on environmental legislation, it elaborated the Concept on the creation of the Ecological Network of the Republic of Moldova, a drat of law "On Access to Environmental Information" and draft of the Convention on the Use of Water and Biological Resources and Conservation of Biodiversity of the Dniester River.

Green Action, Croatia

Green Action is non-governmental, nonparty and nonprofit association of citizens whose aim is the protection of environment and nature, as well as the promotion of sustainable development in Croatia. It is registered in January 1990 with headquarters in Zagreb. Through its activities, projects and campaigns, Green Action promotes the public participation in obtaining the constitutional right on healthy environment on local, national and international level. GA promotes volunteer work but has a core group of expert professionals. The main decision-making body is assembly consisted of all members. GA become a member of the Friends of the Earth (FoE) in 2000, and since 2001 it cooperates with the WWF.

Makmontana, Macedonia

Makmontana is a citizen based association created in 1999 for the sustainable development of the mountain regions in the Republic of Macedonia. The organisation's tasks and objectives targeting mountain regions in Macedonia among others include: the expression, promotion and protection of the cultural, economic, political and scientific interests of the population; informing public opinion on the problems; encouragement of training and research; development of management plans for protected areas in according to EU standards. For this aim Makmontana collaborates with other national and international institutions. On the national level very close cooperation is established with the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, as well as with the National Parks of the Republic of Macedonia, Faculty of Forestry and Faculty of Natural Sciences.

Young Researchers of Serbia

"THINK BIG - do little: start an avalanche!" is the motto of the Young Researchers of Serbia - Voluntary Service of Serbia, non-governmental, non-profit youth organisation. YRS-VSS is an umbrella of 27 research clubs and societies from Serbia. For 29 years we have been gathering young people round our research projects, voluntary camps, educational programmes and environmental campaigns, thus stimulating scientific creativity of young people and motivating them for voluntary work, environmental protection and nature conservation.
