ceewebAwardWinners of the CEEweb Award of excellence in biodiversity protection have been announced! The award aims to demonstrate how civil society and other stakeholders contribute to the conservation of European biodiversity. The call was open to CEEweb members and other organisations and entities. The three Award Categories were:

  • Managing our natural resources
  • Connecting and restoring habitats and greening up urban spaces
  • Businesses involvement in nature conservation.

The jury consisting of professionals and communication experts selected four trailblazers in the three categories, all of which have been making an excellent contribution to nature conservation.

The winning organisations are:

Managing our natural resources:

Fundatia-AdeptADEPT Foundation from Romania for doing habitat conservation through traditional sustainable land management with the involvement of local communities, protecting the environment as well as conserving the cultural heritage of the region and providing employment and economic development. Connecting and restoring habitats and greening up urban spaces:

 brozBROZ (Regional Association for Nature Conservation and Sustainable Development), Slovak Ornithological Society/Bird Life Slovakia, and Slovak Bat Conservation Society from Slovakia for implementing the first even LIFE project (LIFE10 NAT/SK/079 Apus & Nyctalus in Slovakia) in urban habitats of swifts and bat species. Lithuanian Fund for Nature for  recreating amphibian habitats for endangered species and raising public awareness on their importance.  Read the full case study here.

Businesses involvement in nature conservation:

 bedlogoCroatian Brod Ecological Society (BED) for reintroducing cattle in abandoned areas to fight invasive species and natural succession in abandoned biodiversity-rich agricultural areas. Read the full case study here.
