Narrative

As part of the storm warning and meteo system, Limanowa county has purchased a weather station and storm detector together with a cell phone application. The application has an innovative functionality of receiving notifications about an approaching storm or other danger. The application allows monitoring conditions conducive to thunderstorms and the thunderstorms themselves (e.g., type of discharge) in a selected area of Limanowa County. The meteorological station and storm detector were installed on the County Office building. The product was created as part of the implementation of the project titled "Ensuring the safety of Limanowa County residents through the creation of a monitoring and warning system against natural disasters and the purchase of necessary equipment".

Financial data

Total project cost -514,170.51 PLN (appr. 128542 Eur); EU financing 359,404.85 PLN (appr. 89851 Eur) (70%), financed from Regional Operational Program of Małopolska Voivodeship 2014-2020, Sub-measure 5.1.2 Support of emergency services under Regional Operational Program 2014-2020, European Regional Development Fund.

Recommendations

In the course of analyzing the current situation, it was diagnosed that among the most urgent investments in the field of security in Limanowa County is the implementation of a warning system, ensuring high efficiency, smoothness and quality of operation, allowing the use of the latest technology and the fastest possible warning of storm phenomena.

To cope with the increasing number of extreme weather events, it is recommended to support the implementation of efficient warning systems using high quality technology and the stocking of emergency supplies. It is also necessary to purchase certified equipment (barrel trucks) to supply drinking water during emergencies and shortages.
