Purchase of environmentally friendly public transport (buses)

Organisation: Green Liberty Website: www.zalabriviba.lv Added: June 30, 2023
Project start date: November 03, 2017
Project end date: August 02, 2019

Narrative

As part of the project, 16 (sixteen) new, environmentally friendly M3 category public vehicles (buses) were purchased, of which 14 (fourteen) vehicles run on diesel fuel according to the maximum permissible emission of the "Euro 6" standard, and 2 (two) vehicles run on electricity. "Jūrmalas autobusu satiksme" LLC now has a larger number of M3 category public vehicles available (16 units instead of the previous 11 units). As a result, it is possible to use buses with a larger passenger capacity during the morning and evening rush hours on certain city routes, thus transporting a larger number of passengers in a one-hour interval, increasing the quality of the provided services and making the passenger journey more comfortable.

Financial data

Total investment: 3 464 000.00 €. EU investment: 1 204 407.20 € (34,7%).

Recommendations

This project was started relatively early, so it is understandable that only 2 emission-free buses were chosen. However, the project does not mention a charging solution for these buses. When purchasing battery electric buses, their charging infrastructure should be provided. There is an open question about the diesel buses - are they at least hybrid drivetrain? They should be.
