Narrative
Romania is one of the countries from EU in which the larges part of the population doesn’t have access to water supply and sewage system. Due to the EU funds an important municipality and the neighbor locality solved this problem. The project aims to carry out works in water and wastewater infrastructure in Galati municipality and Matca commune, Galati county, as follows:

Recommendations
In Romania the access to drinking water (which should be a basic right) is limited for a large number of people and the access to the sewage system is even more problematic. This is a major problem in Romania which has to solve in future. In the big cities this is a major investment and can be solved with funds from EU, so our recommendation is to continue to finance these kind of investments for big municipalities where the access to public services concerning the water supplies is better than in the rural areas, but in many municipalities the system is old and need major modernisation. In the rural areas we recommend to support the decentralised systems for water supply and for the treatment of the waste water to use ecological solutions for which there are many examples in the EU countries. In Romania in order to solve this problem it is needed to improve the legislation and to offer standard solutions for ecological waste water treatment systems. In our opinion this problem can be solved in this way in the rural areas of Romania.
