Revitalisation of the Bartošovický brook

Organisation: Centre for Transport and Energy Website: Added: November 02, 2023
Project start date: August 13, 2020
Project end date: December 20, 2021

Narrative

The project concerns the revitalisation of a modified riverbed. The water management measure supports natural channel forming processes, reduces siltation of the channel further downstream, restores the natural functions of the watercourse and floodplain, optimises the hydrological situation in the catchment area and, last but not least, significantly contributes to increasing the ecological value and biodiversity of the stream and the adjacent area.

Financial data

The investment budget of the revitalisation amounted to CZK 4 930 000, of which the whole sum was covered by the EU subsidy from the Operational Programme Environment.

Recommendations

It is still too early to assess the project's usefulness, but it is expected that the revitalisation of the stream will restore greater biodiversity and improve hydrological conditions in the area. Water will flow out of the area more slowly, erosion activity will be reduced and the water retention capacity of the landscape will increase. The new wetlands and rugged banks will provide a more suitable habitat for a number of birds that occur in the wider area. There will also be an increase in species diversity of flora and associated invertebrates.
