Bike racks for schools - promoting cycling in schools

Organisation: Združenie Slatinka Website: Added: September 20, 2022

Narrative

The Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic has recently published the supported projects from the first ever subsidy scheme aimed specifically at school mobility, namely bicycle racks for parking bicycles at schools. The launch of this financial mechanism is one of the successes of our Go to School on a Bike campaign, as it was the figures from the campaign that we used to argue for it - more than 70% of the schools involved already have a shortage of bicycle parking spaces and 93% indicated in the campaign's penultimate year that they would welcome this form of assistance from the state. At the same time, inadequate bicycle storage facilities are one of the main reasons why some pupils do not cycle to school, according to our surveys.

Financial data

€ 750 000

Recommendations

Encourage the development of sustainable non-motorised transport at school age through the development of supporting infrastructure through a greater allocation of resources.
