Narative
The City of Hronov started implementing its energy-saving measures in 2011. Since then, it has managed to insulate the buildings of primary and kindergarten schools, modernise the boiler room in the town theatre and replace most of the outdated heat sources in the town buildings with modern condensing gas boilers. In total, the city saves CZK 1.5 million a year on energy costs and emits 187 tonnes less CO2 into the air.
Financial data
The scope of the project is the insulation of building envelopes on buildings owned by the town of Hronov. A house for the elderly, a kindergarten, a primary school, and a secondary school were gradually insulated, among others. The total amount reached approximately CZK 40 million, of which CZK 20.7 million (approximately EUR 850 000) was financed from EU funds.
Recommendations
The City of Hronov is not the only city in the Czech Republic to use EU funds for energy efficiency measures. Their approach is unique because it tackles the energy consumption of buildings from a comprehensive point of view. The way the city is tackling this issue can serve as a positive example for other municipalities in the Czech Republic but also in the rest of the CEE region.
