Traditional meadows, orchards and natural fens in the area are of great value for wildlife. The traditionally managed woodlands and meadows create a mosaic structure, there are no large, continuous, homogenous blocks of woodlands, grasslands or arable. The proportion of monoculture forest plantations is very small. Also, continuous cover forestry methods are the main management system, and within that mostly single tree selection.
In the existing stands, continuous restoration of the natural forest character in accordance with the relevant habitat type, species composition, structure, and age class is of paramount importance.
Avoid great areas of clearfells. If planting new stands of such woodland, try to create the natural forest character.
Leave more deadwood (both standing and fallen) on-site to protect the associated fauna.
If the option is relevant transform stands to continuous cover forestry methods.
