Malá Fatra
The site is a rich mosaic of forest habitats ranging from oak-beech forest to the habitats of dwarf pine vegetation zone, but the traditionally managed grasslands and minor wetlands such as bogs are also habitats of interest.
The site is rich in wildlife including 973 species of vascular plants, 3.000 species of invertebrates and 210 species of vertebrates with many endemic species among these. Greater carnivores such as brown bears, lynx and wolves are also well distributed in the area.
The Administration of Malá Fatra National Park is part of the INTERREG Central Europe project “HUMANITA - Human-Nature Interactions and Impacts of Tourist Activities on Protected Areas” where CEEweb is also a partner organisation. The National Park will provide a pilot site for the project where they will be surveying environmental/biotic/abiotic variables using different approaches and develop tools for participatory monitoring and involve local people, stakeholders, and tourists.
