Preserving natural resources by creating an e-learning platform and organizing a Summer School
The project aims towards building an e-learning platform and provide a knowledge hub for the exchange of information on nature, environment and landscape protection. The developed knowledge base will revolve around the following themes:
- Rural development
- Spatial planning
- Nature protection
- Settlement development
- Historical landscape, landscape and land use
In connection with the thematic topics, the e-learning platform will also pay special attention to the dissemination of the Sustainable Development Goals on a practical level, covering a minimum of 3 target areas based on the systematized results of a Summer University organised by the project.
Moreover, the Summer University, which will provide five days of theoretical and practical training and take place in the Bükk National Park, will serve as one of the main events for disseminating the knowledge base, aiming primarily for students in the areas of nature, environment, and landscape conservation. The main theme of the program will be to promote interdisciplinary collaboration between professional sectors and to provide participants with methods of integrated, landscape-scale design practice.
During the program, participants will become familiar with the landscape history characteristics of the area, the landscape history databases, the basics of landscape history research, and the available map databases.
With the help of the experts of the National Park Directorate and the territorially involved state forestry, the participants get also familiar with the geological, botanical and zoological properties of the area, and in discussions with the mayors of the settlements in the region, they get an idea of the area’s social difficulties too. Through the information received from professionals and local leaders, as well as through spatial planning tools, they get a comprehensive picture of the environmental, social and economic characteristics of a narrower area, and learn about the local tasks of nature conservation. Based on the acquired knowledge, a rural development action plan will be prepared, which will help the local municipalities to work on their own development plans.
The results of the Summer University will be integrated into the e-learning knowledge base to be developed on the CEEweb website.
Background
In Hungary, interdisciplinary collaboration between nature protection professional sectors is a field that requires attention, especially so when addressing methods of integrated, landscape-scale design practices. In that sense, there is plenty of space to intervene when it relates to further building capacities, establishing synergies, and boosting expertise exchanges in themes such as landscape history characteristics of the area, landscape history databases, landscape history research, and map databases.
