How the post-2020 EU Biodiversity Strategy and the Farm to Fork Strategy can potentially support the resilience of farmlands

Analytical report | December 15, 2020
Related area of expertise: Resilience

In this analytical report, we focus on the resilience of agricultural systems or more precisely that of complex agroecological systems. There is more to agriculture than just producing food. Agricultural landscapes provide multiple ecosystem services and they can also play an important role in mitigating biodiversity loss and environmental degradation. But for that to happen they need to maintain what is called a multifunctional capacity, a term used to explain how landscapes can produce food while also maintain ecosystem services such as carbon storage, water quality, soil fertility and outdoor recreation.
