This document offers concrete guidelines for a common strategic framework for the identification, conservation, restoration, and management of ecological corridors in the Carpathian ecoregion for the 2021-2026 period. Its target audience includes the Carpathian Convention Secretariat and the member state representatives of the Carpathian Convention, policy-makers in the Carpathian countries, and civil society. By creating a common strategic framework for concerted action and effort coordination across boundaries, this document represents a step forward towards the preservation and improvement of ecological connectivity in the Carpathian ecoregion. It aims to:
- Cope with the increasing ecosystem and habitat fragmentation in the Danube region, and
- Improve ecological connectivity between natural habitats, especially between Natura 2000 sites, the Emerald Network, and other protected area categories of transnational importance in the Carpathian ecoregion.
