Resilience

'Resilience’ is one of CEEweb's guiding conceptual frameworks. Within it, we aim to advocate for the better integration of ‘resilience thinking’ into national and EU policy-development processes through various awareness-raising campaigns, strong positions and targeted workshops. Resilient social-ecological and agroecological systems are essential to sustainable development as they form the foundation of a stable, well-functioning society while saving the environment from additional pressures and threats. The factors, policies and practices that support resilient agroecosystems form a central element of CEEweb’s work on the topic. A great emphasis is placed on advocating for sustainable agricultural practices and the required policies enabling this. Resilience, integrated into the management of farmlands, can potentially contribute to achieving food security and protecting farmland biodiversity.

Objective

  • Ambitious but achievable post-2020 EU Biodiversity Strategy for resilient ecosystems.
  • A new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) that protects and enhances farmland biodiversity and integrates approaches that support the resilience of agroecosystems.
  • Resilient agroecological systems and stakeholders with increased knowledge and awareness on resilience in Central and Eastern Europe.
  • Resilience thinking integrated into relevant post-2020 EU policies.

Activities

  • Advocating ‘resilience’ as a key element in the new environmental strategies on EU and national levels.
  • Analytical reports, with recommendations, on how selected EU policies can potentially support the resilience of agroecosystems.
  • Social media campaigns on resilience thinking targeting fellow environmental NGOs and EU decision-makers on resilience science and resilience-related activities at CEEweb.
  • Workshops for CEEweb members and other stakeholders in the CEE region on the concept of ‘resilience thinking’ from an environmental perspective.
  • Constructing a resilience analysis framework of agroecosystems and applying it in various agroecosystems to foster resilience thinking in practice.
