At the working
group meeting in Brussels on 14-16 November, eleven CEEweb

The Council
of Europe and the Bern Convention has started an assessment
of the Emerald Network in non-EU countries (including
north Africa) in the form of a series of Biogeographic
Seminars. The first seminar in autumn 2011 will focus
on the West-Balkan countries.

2010, the EC has announced to the European Nature Directors
that it has initiated a new biogeographic process, which
is a series of biogeographic level seminars on management
of Natura 2000.

The Natura
2000 Working Group meeting took place in July 4-6, in
the picturesque village of Gömörszõlõs,
Hungary. Twelve participants from five countries discussed
the future activities of the working group covering the
themes of Natura 2000 designation, financing and management,
and discussing additional programs and project ideas in
terms of land use and green infrastructure.

Europe is
the most densely populated continent with high level of
urban
areas and actively used lands with an approx. 30% of fragmented
area.
Therefore, this project main goal is to study the rich
natural heritage of
the Visegrad countries in order to ensure its conservation
through
integrated spatial planning.

Week conference in 2011 focused on the theme "Resource
efficiency - Using less, living better". In order
to reach out beyond Brussels, satellite events were organised
in cities around Europe, where stakeholders from Member

The 2010
target to stop the loss of biodiversity in the EU is
not met. The EU has therefore adopted a new EU biodiversity
target and started work on a supporting biodiversity
policy package in 2010. Read

Summit COP 16 negotiations took place between 29 November
and 10 December 2010 in Cancun, Mexico. Read CEEweb's

Our regular annual meeting for 2010 took place
in Vác, Hungary between 3 and 5 November.
On the first day of the event CEEweb kicked off the
Resource Cap Coalition with the involvement of
interested stakeholders from all around Europe. Read

Significant meetings were taking place during 2010,
including the SBSTTA and the WGRI, and the COP10 of
the Convention on Biological Diversity was taking
place in October, Nagoya, Japan. CEEweb delivered significant

In 2009 and 2010 CEEweb was coordintating a project
with three Hungarian social NGOs in order to develop
joint recommendations towards sustainable development.
The coalition aimed to focus the root causes of biodiversity

The fifth CEEweb Academy was organized in 22-24
July 2010, in Maramures, a beautiful wilderness
area of the Carpathians. The main topics of the event
were: ecosystem-based approach in mitigation of and
adaptation to climate change; policy integration and

The Pan-European NGO CBD COP10 preparatory meeting
took place 5-6 July back-to-back with a high-level
biodiversity conference in Azerbaijan. Participants
formulated joint messages for COP10 and developed common
projects to implement CBD decisions. Read

The first Natura 2000 WG Meeting of 2010 took
place 30 June-2nd July in the beatuiful town
of Bled, Slovenia. Topics of the meeting: Natura
2000 compensation measures; European policy and national

The 15th CITES Conference of Parties took place
from 13 25 of March 2010 in
Doha, Qatar. Representatives from CEEweb CITES WG also

The United Nations declared 2010 to be the International
Year of Biodiversity (IYB). During the framwork
of IYB several activites took place aroung the Globe.

Join the Pan-European Biodiversity Picnic campaign
by organising a national event on 22 May, International
Biodiversity Day also in 2010. At the Picnics participants
have enjoyed organic foods and talked about biodiversity
in already 12 countries around Pan-Europe. Read

The UNFCCC COP 15 in Copenhagen provided a historical
chance to develop truly effective policies that will
stop climate change from turning disastrous. Unfortunately
the results of the Conference show that the world is

The most recent high-level conference of the Pan-European
Biological and Landscape Diversity Strategy (PEBLDS)
was held in the fall of 2009. CEEweb in cooperation
with Pan-European NGO representatives provided an effective

the development and implementation of sustainable tourism
