For an ambitious pesticides regulation that protects people, biodiversity and ecosystems
Joint statement - October 2023
On October 24th, members of the ENVI committee will vote on the EU Pesticide Regulation (SUR). This vote will play a determining role in forging the position of the European Parliament on the SUR and for the reduction of pesticides in the next decade to come.
The SUR is part of the European Green Deal’s food, farming and biodiversity policy package, aiming at reducing by 50% the use and risk of pesticides by 2030. For the first time, this regulation could result in legally binding targets for the reduction of pesticides both at the European and national levels.
Unfortunately, this regulation is currently the target of an intense lobbying campaign from big agribusiness, seeking to water down the proposal and make its targets non-binding.
