Achieving climate neutrality is unattainable without the rewetting of peatlands. As announced at the multi-stakeholder workshop in Tata earlier this year, CEEweb for Biodiversity hosted its second event on November 15, 2023, as part of the “Building the European Peatlands Initiative: A Strong Alliance for Peatland Climate Protection in Europe” project.
Bátya is a small village with 2239 inhabitants and an area of 3386 km2, next to the river Danube. The average annual local precipitation is 550 mm, while in 2010 the local gauging station observed 1000 mm. Extreme rain events cause damage to agriculture, infrastructure (roads, sewage system) and residential and public buildings. On the other hand, the evaporation is also high, and the region is exposed to droughts
The first workshop of the EUKI “Building the European Peatlands Initiative: A Strong Alliance for Peatland Climate Protection in Europe” project took place on the 20th of June in Tata, Hungary. Organised by CEEweb for Biodiversity, the event was designed to bring together different stakeholders to share and discuss experiences on peatland protection, restoration and sustainable use
VIMOMA’s project consortium and the invited protected area managers gathered in Hungary to discuss communications tools and approaches to promote natural areas and attract visitors. The fourth workshop was hosted by CEEweb at Teleki-Wattay Castle, Pomáz between the 24th and 25th of April, 2023
