Project start date: January 01, 2021
Project end date: June 30, 2023

Narrative

The aim of the project is to obtain intellectual property rights and economic benefits resulting from the research carried out regarding the improvement of electricity management solutions for multi-apartment buildings by developing a state-of-the-art, cloud-based, adaptive and artificial intelligence-driven electricity management platform and the equipment to be integrated into it, which will provide intelligent distribution of electricity at the level of users and common connection according to changing building electricity consumption habits and external conditions, as well as real-time use of unused electricity in the building for charging electric cars without creating an additional new connection, including making it possible to transfer the electricity stored in electric car batteries to the needs of the network or aggregators.

Financial data

Total: 770 379.98 €. EU: 497 979.15 € (64,6%).

Recommendations

Using and not increasing the existing home electricity connection in an optimal way to charge electric vehicles is an efficient use of resources. Such projects are relevant not only in Latvia, but also in the rest of the world. Especially in places where getting a new electricity connection is resource intensive. By equalizing electricity demand, it is possible not to increase the load on the electricity grid during peak demand times. Latvia and local governments should require and enshrine in the law that all apartment buildings have not only the possibility of charging electric vehicles, but also that this charging uses the unused capacity of the building.

However the use of public funds in order to gain intelectual property rights and economic benefits for such project is not considered to be the best practice. Especially knowing that similar solutions already exist on the market.
