IWiRoM: An Intelligent Winter Road Maintenance Information System

Organisation: Green Liberty Website: www.zalabriviba.lv Added: March 21, 2023
Project start date: January 01, 2021
Project end date: June 30, 2023

Narrative

LLC "ZZ Dats" The aim of the project is to obtain intellectual property rights and economic benefits resulting from the conducted research regarding increasing the efficiency of winter road maintenance processes by developing an open and modular intellectual winter road maintenance support information system based on the latest scientific knowledge and enterprise resource planning (ERP) adapted to it. an integration solution that would provide road maintainers with a data-based review of resource usage and proactive decision-making, minimizing the reaction time for optimal road maintenance activities, thereby promoting safe driving conditions for road users, as well as providing an ecosystem for other smart services aimed at transport and public safety.  As a side benefit to this system there's an obvious ecological benefit of using only as much resources as needed for the road maintenance and keeping the roads on optimal condition.

Financial data

Total investment: 666 625.37 €. EU investment: 476 570.47 € (71.4%).

Recommendations

Such a project is important to improve road safety in winter conditions. This is especially relevant in Latvia, because the temperature can change from day to day even by more than 10°C. This information is important not only for road maintainers, but also for those who travel on these roads. Integration with the largest providers of navigation systems would have a positive impact on the situation in Latvia and potentially not only on the roads. There are obvious economical benefits and reasonable ecological benefits gained from a smart road condition monitoring. However this is clearly a public fund usage for economical benefits of a single company that will later continue to benefit  of a product/service that will have a clear demand in the future.
