Narrative

The overall objective of the project ‘Design and construction of installation for composting green and/or biodegradable waste in the town of Lom’ is to reduce the amount of biodegradable landfilled waste generated on the territory of the municipality of Lom through the separate collection and utilization of green and/or biodegradable municipal waste. The specific objective of the project is to provide the necessary infrastructure for separate collection and recovery of biodegradable municipal waste on the territory of the municipality of Lom. As a result of the implementation of the project a composting plant with a capacity of 3004 t/year will be constructed, which will process separately collected green and / or biodegradable municipal waste from the settlements on the territory of Lom and will produce high-quality compost. The necessary trucks and containers will also be provided for introducing the separate collection and transport system to the composting installation of the collected waste.

Recommendations

The socio-economic benefits of implementing the project are aimed at improving the quality of the environment for residents in Lom Municipality by reducing waste related emissions; providing a new type of waste service to residents and businesses in the municipality and high-quality compost. Thus, the project is to contribute to improving resource efficiency, with the result of the investment being the waste turns into a resource – compost. Therefore, the project can be considered a good practice.
