Towards a climate neutral EU:
efficient allocation of EU funds

Biocentre on the Rostěnický Brook

Organisation: Centre for Transport and Energy Website: Added: November 02, 2023
Project start date: January 01, 2019
Project end date: August 26, 2021

Narrative

The project enabled the revitalisation of a 320 m long stream bed. Several pools have also been created to provide sufficient water depth for aquatic animals even in times of drought. The overall aim of the biocentre is to improve water management in the landscape and provide habitat for amphibians and waterbirds.

Financial data

The investment budget of the revitalisation amounted to approximately CZK 7.7 million, of which the whole sum was covered by the EU subsidy from the Operational Programme Enivronment.

Recommendations

The benefit of this bio-centre is that it will increase the local species diversity, as the site is in an intensively farmed landscape where wetland areas are lacking. It is also important not to forget the importance of retaining water in the landscape and strengthening its ecological stabilisation function.
