Narrative
The main objectives of the project are: The main objective of the project was to contribute to the implementation of sustainable land use in the context of integrated environmental management of urban functional areas (UFAs) at the strategic planning level through the development of methodologies, strategies, action plans and materials for further education of professionals and the general public. The focal part of the project was the implementation of two pilot investments in selected locations: in the town of "Ruda Slaska" in Poland and in the area of the abandoned forest "Štrky" in Slovakia. Both sites were completely revitalised as part of the project implementation with the aim of developing them into recreational and sporting areas for the local population. Both pilot investments were also successfully implemented with the aim of serving as "good practice examples" for the revitalisation of brownfields and greenfields in urban and peri-urban areas, which can serve as inspiration for addressing similar environmental pressures in other European regions. By participating in this project, the city of Trnava followed the successful implementation of the CircUse project, on the basis of which, among other things, the abandoned forest in Štrki was selected as an area suitable for comprehensive revitalisation and the construction of a sports and recreation zone within the LUMAT project. The implementation of the project activities took place from 1 May 2016 to 31 July 2019, which was also the period of eligibility of expenditure. As mentioned above, the project implemented a set of "soft" (non-investment) project activities and at the same time two key investment activities, the aforementioned revitalisation of the post-coal mining greenfield in the town of Ruda Slaska (Poland) and the revitalisation of the Štrky greenfield (Slovakia), which before the project was an abandoned and neglected area contaminated by wild waste dumps and invasive trees, in both cases involving their comprehensive revitalisation and the construction of sports and recreation zones for the general public.
